& Drove 10,000 Fans To a Frenzy

SS501's first-ever concert in Taiwan created a new wave of Hallyu

SS501's gold masks added an air of mystery to the stage

South Korean idol group SS501 shed their flower boys' image and opened their performance at their first-ever concert in Taipei in military-inspired costumes last night, and sent more than 10,000 fans into a frenzy.

Showed Chest Muscles

SS501 made their debut four years ago, and started to gain popularity in Taiwan due to leader Kim Hyun Joong's role in the Korean version of the Meteor Garden drama.

Their first concert in Taiwan attracted over 10,000 fans, and the tickets to the two-hour long concert raked in as much as NT$30,000,000. (approx. US$900,000 or S$1.3m)

At the concert last night, the five of them opened the show in military-inspired costume and sang performed Deja Vu.

Fans waved green lightsticks enthusiastically and screams were resounding throughout the arena non-stop.

For the second song, Unlock, the members appeared in gold masks. When they removed the masks and walked to the centre of the stage, that ignited another round of explosive action and brought the concert to another high.

Direction & Traffic Flow Chaotic & Confusing
Leaving Taiwan in the Afternoon

Other than group performance, the five members also had their solo items. Park Jung Min's Tian-Mi-Mi (甜蜜蜜) played to the fans' hearts. Kim Hyun Joong even ripped his top and showed his chest muscles during his solo item, Please Be Good to Me, causing the fans to lapse into total frenzy.

As tickets to the SS501 concert were very high in demand, the traffic flow when the fans were entering the venue was chaotic at one point. The main organizing unit, Broker Brothers Herald, expressed that this was because just three days before the concert, the Taipei Arena management made a sudden request to widen the safety buffer passageway at the standing section.

Standing section B had to be reduced by one metre, which was equivalent to the capacity of 80 standing fans.

As an emergency measure, they could only quickly arranged for some of the fans from the standing section to the media and VIP sections.

After the concert, SS501 will be taking the Asiana Airlines 2:35pm flight OZ712 to depart from Taiwan, and will then busy themselves with the promotional activities for their latest mini album.
