[News] Lantern Festival Marks 50 Day Countdown to 2010-2012 Visit Korea Celebrations

SS501 will be performing again next wednesday at the Seoul Lantern Festival Opening ceremony special concert. A check on my calender, Hyun Joong will be attending the Style Icon Award during the same day, the Award ceremony starts from 6 - 11pm. Hmm..... so it also means that he would not be able to join in the performance since he cannot be at 2 locations at one time......

Seoul Lantern Festival will kick off at Cheonggye Plaza on November 11th in celebration of the 50 day countdown before the opening of the 2010-2012 VISIT KOREA festivities. The event will include a delightful opening ceremony and concert by famous Korean stars, and lanterns strung up all along the Cheonggyecheon stream.

The festival invites people from all over the world to come to Seoul and light a lantern, a symbol of 'hope and friendship'. Main events will include an opening ceremony, star studded concert and the daily lantern lighting ceremonies. The concert will include a number of famous Hallyu singers, including SS501, MC Mong, FT Island, Lee Jung-hyun and Ivy. Another highlight is the world famous hanbok designer Lee Young Hee whose work will be presented in a fashion show.

The Seoul Lantern Festival will be held in conjunction with celebrations of the 50-day countdown to the 2010-2012 Visit Korea campaign. Over 10,000 lanterns from more than 20 countries worldwide will emit a magical glow along Cheonggyecheon Stream. There are four zones representing their own unique themes: The Gyoryu zone stretches from Cheonggye Plaza to Gwangtonggyo bridge and brings together lanterns from around the globe united in peaceful harmony. The Wollyu zone spans from Gwangtonggyo Bridge to Gwanggyo Bridge and highlights traditional Korean culture while the Hallyu zone provides an opportunity to experience Hallyu culture directly and also includes famous symbols of Seoul. The Illyu zone reaches from Jangtonggyo Bridge to Samilgyo Bridge and represents the future vision of Seoul based on IT technology and design. The four themes will be exhibited along Cheonggyecheon Stream and a lighting ceremony will be held every afternoon during the festival.

A variety of events and performances will also be held around Cheonggyecheon Stream during the festival including the opportunity for visitors to write down their wishes on lanterns that will then be used to build a tunnel around Mojeongyo Bridge. At the lantern-floating event from 5 to 7pm, people will float their lanterns along the beautiful Cheonggyecheon Stream, praying for their dreams to come true.
